Asakusa Shrine, known in Japanese as Sanja-sama, was built in the Edo Period and somehow survived the bombings of World War Two. It is just a few minutes walk from the train station of Asakusa on the subway line. This shrine has free entry and also has a unique open roof market that closes the top in bad weather.
Black Jack (in Katakana ブラック・ジャック) is a Japanese comic book series composed and drawn by Osamu Tezuka in the 1970s. It is about the medical adventure of a doctor called Black Jack. Japan currently has about 5 and a half million vending machines. When visiting Japan you will see them everywhere. Most vending machines in Japan sell cigarettes or drinks (including cold or hot tea, soft drinks, soup and even alcohol). Japan’s first vending machine sold cigarettes back in 1888. In Japan Astro Boy is called Atomu or in Katakana ”アトム”. Astro Boy was a Japanese comic series created and drawn by Osamu Tezuka in 1952. The story was about the adventures of a robot boy called Astro Boy, which was set in a futuristic society. |
